Pantone Color of the Year: Classic Blue
Pantone has announced the Color of the Year for 2020—Classic Blue. Thought to instill calm, confidence, and connection, Classic Blue was chosen as the foundation to which we embark in this new era. Known as a dependable and stable color, classic blue is a legacy color enduring the test of time. It manages to be both elegant and simplistic, whether sparking nostalgia of a midsummer’s evening at dusk or reflective of the deep waters of the Puget Sound.
The selection process for Color of the Year factors trend analysis and thoughtful consideration to arrive at the chosen color. Experts refer to color influences from around the globe—from film and traveling art collections to fashion and design.
Interestingly, the arrival at Classic Blue happened right in our backyard. Leatrice Eiseman, color consultant and executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, is a resident of Bainbridge Island and color professional. Having relocated to Seattle from Los Angeles in the 90s, Leatrice says, “We have to squint [in full sun] in order to look at the color and see it clearly. When you have the light that we have here in Seattle, you can look at it with wide-open eyes.”
