Sophisticated Décor Choices that Pop During Autumn

With Halloween approaching, it’s hard to ignore all the paper ghosts, jack-o-lanterns, and other spooky knickknacks that many place around their house as the time to trick-or-treat approaches. But simply thinking of October as a time to decorate for Halloween is a missed opportunity. From the pumpkins we place on our front porch the light that films are home, here are five ideas that may have you falling in love.

Create a gourd-geous front door | Jack-o-lanterns are fun, but once they’re carved the expiration date starts ticking. Consider sprucing your front steps with an array of gourds in different colors and textures to bring that feeling of the harvest home, without making it to Halloween-y. Try complementing the bounty with flowerpots of blooms in your favorite autumn colors--marigold, burnt orange, and a dark rich purple. Most pumpkins picked up during early October should last through Thanksgiving but keep an eye on them if the rain tends to hit your porch. Once those soft spots show up, it can turn pretty quickly.

Bring fall favorite colors inside | The hues of trees seem to change so quick, that they go from colorful wonderland to barren in a snap. Relish in your favorite fall colors by accenting your furniture with autumnal-hued pillows in living room, or cloth napkins and table runners in your dining room. Don’t let the ideal of red, orange, and yellow catch you off guard. If you want to keep it subtle, look for a rust orange, a honey yellow, and reddish purples. For a final touch, pick up fresh flowers adorned in the colors reminiscent of the fall foliage.

Incorporate a big cozy texture | Do you knit? While some picked up this pastime in quarantine, there are plenty of places to find beautiful knit treasures, and I prefer those that bring a sense of elegance as well as coziness. The latest knit chunky blanket trend adds variety to the textures used in your living space. Use these blankets to mix up textures in a rec room, informal living room, or in a bedroom. With the right pop of color, they welcome friends and loved ones while still providing the perfect place to snuggle up and watch a favorite movie on a grey and rainy day.

Accent with Gold & Silver| While we talk about autumn, the holiday season is fast on its heels. Instead of trying to turn over your home completely from one season to the next, incorporate gold and silver accents among your autumn fabrics. Hosting friends and loved ones for a casual get together or for a more formal holiday celebrating, plates, stemware, and more with gold and silver detailing add a sophisticated appeal to any gathering.

Light it up! | Some may light candles for that pumpkin spice scent, but no matter what your olfactory sense desires, lighting candles along with hanging filament string lights is a fall decorating tip that warms the house through fall and can carry it through the holiday season. If you’re someone that finds the grey cloudy days of fall bleak, then adding indirect sources of light can fill your home (and your heart) with warmth.
