Spruce Up Your Home for Spring
Spring is quickly approaching, and with it, the opportunity to spruce up your home, whether it’s a small upgrade or fresh coat of paint, or a full-on remodel. A recent 425 Magazine article looks at the latest home design trends, with tips for determining “how to blend styles and create a home that feels cohesive.”
Hot Highlights of 2018
For the kitchen, “painted cabinetry is dominating the market over the previously preferred style of stained wood,” while quartz countertops are overtaking the popularity of granite or natural stone. There has also been “a surge of monochromatic, simple earth tones, like cream, beige, white, and brown.” The smaller scale of subway tiles (though still beloved) are being overtaken by larger, bolder options, and are being used to add a pop of color to complement a neutral palette.
Paint Trends
“Color forecasts for 2018 predict more uses of violet and deep shades of red,” which can be used as great accents in any room. 425 Magazine recommends keeping things neutral with paint and going bolder in accent pieces such as “pillows, window treatments, and accessories.” If you’re feeling bold, check out Caliente, Benjamin Moore’s “Color of the Year,” or the lavender hues of Farrow & Ball’s Peignoir.
Pops of Color
If you’ve elected to use quieter paint colors, consider highlighting a room with a pop of bold: “think shades of charcoal, deep blues, and greens.”
Upgrade a Statement Piece
If you aren’t feeling up to the task of a major remodel or design, there are plenty of simple and economical ways to transform your space. Replace a light fixture, add a fresh coat of paint to the walls, or change the hardware on cabinets or drawers – even these slight changes could make a world of difference.
Bringing Things Together
If you’re worried about bringing your rooms together, it can help to consider what it is that you love most about your favorite pieces: you just may find a thread that weaves everything together. It’s also important to keep in mind that things shouldn’t be too “match-y” and combining multiple styles can result in a fun, wonderful space.
